THE MIRACLE OF
MY STUFF BAGS

AMERICA’S FORGOTTEN TRAGEDY
Doesn’t it just amaze you to hear that nearly 300,000 children in America must be rescued from terrible abusive situations each year and that so often they arrive at crisis centers and foster homes with absolutely nothing of their own? Imagine the trauma of being separated from all you know and not even having your own stuff. You see, abused and neglected children must often be rescued so suddenly that they do not have time to prepare, nor do the agencies that serve them. So most of these children arrive at and transition through the crisis centers and foster homes with few, if any, personal belongings. What’s worse, they often lug around in trash bags what few possessions they can gather. That’s how they got the awful nickname: “trash-bag kids.”
We can’t all be there to hold these unfortunate children, but we can give them something to hold on to…a
My Stuff
Bag.
|
Filled with things they need,
things to cuddle, things to hold on to, and things to call their
own,
My Stuff Bags help these children get settled in their new
surroundings. And because they are filled with donations of new belongings from people all across the country, the children learn that lots of people really care about what has happened to them.
And that brings us to the miracle of it all. |

Hundreds of crisis and foster care organizations tell us about the immediate and very positive impact the
My Stuff Bags have on the children in their care and the extraordinary feelings of “hope” the bags instill. The bags are so effective, in fact, that requests for them have increased at an astonishing rate since the program began in
1998. Fortunately, thousands of people throughout the United States have become a part of the
My Stuff Bags
program, providing donations of items to fill the bags, money to ship the bags, and gracious donations of time to stuff the bags. And, miraculously, they thank the Foundation for the opportunity to provide tangible evidence of their concern for the children. Incredibly, we have been able to send more and more and more bags every year. This is the miracle of
My Stuff Bags
.
Miraculous? Yes. But we still have a long way to go. We must place a
My Stuff Bag in the hands of each of the nearly 300,000 children who need one
each year. (That’s over 30 children per hour!) Let’s show abused, abandoned, and neglected children they are not part of America’s forgotten tragedy by giving them stuff they can call their own. Become a part of the growing miracle of
My Stuff Bags.
