Be the Hero of Your Own Story
Three months ago, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at an uplifting event for homeless students, something unexpected happened…
As students received their My Stuff Bags, several began tying the blankets inside around their shoulders—transforming the blankets into superhero capes.
Students struck poses. They laughed. They stood taller. They became the heroes of their own stories.
As Student Resource Specialist for the school, Gabriel Verrone, exclaims, “What began as a simple distribution of resources quickly transformed into a powerful, joyful expression of confidence, resilience, and belonging. Seeing students literally and figuratively step into their roles as superheroes of their own stories was incredibly powerful and reinforced the importance of programs that support the whole child.”
Why This Matter Right Now
Every year, we work to provide 20,000 My Stuff Bags to children across the country—and every My Stuff Bag includes a new blanket.
Every child deserves that “hero” moment. That chance to feel strong, safe, and supported. But right now, the need is outpacing our supply.
