My Stuff Bags Assists Children Affected by the Ventura County “Mountain Fire”

Published On: November 18, 2024

The Mountain Fire, which ignited early on November 6, 2024, in Ventura County, California, has left a trail of destruction in its wake. Within just a few hours, the fire spread across more than 10,000 acres, devastating communities in its path. Homes were destroyed, schools closed, and thousands of families were forced to evacuate. As of November 13, the fire had burned 20,630 acres, and while containment efforts by over 1,400 firefighters had made significant progress, the toll on local residents—especially children—remained devastating.

The need for support has never been clearer. Thousands of children and their families in Ventura County have been directly impacted by the Mountain Fire. Many have lost their homes and the sense of security that comes with them.

In response to this urgent crisis, the My Stuff Bags Foundation was ready to help. On November 13, three representatives from the Ventura County Office of Education arrived at our headquarters in Westlake Village, CA, to collect 80 My Stuff Bags. They explained to us that the Mountain Fire has taken over 200 homes, meaning that there are likely dozens of children and families who are currently homeless. While authorities are still gathering information on the impact of the fire, and number of individuals affected, My Stuff Bags has offered to continue working with the Ventura COE to supply more Bags to children in need, as the situation progresses.

My Stuff Bags

These Bags, which are filled with essential items like toiletries, blankets, clothing, and comfort items like stuffed animals and toys, were carefully packed to provide hope and stability to children affected by the fire. Each My Stuff Bag was designated for children of different age groups, from babies to teens, ensuring that the most vulnerable—who had lost everything in the chaos of the evacuation—would receive the right support.

During their visit, the representatives from the Ventura County Office of Education were introduced to the My Stuff Bags process and given a tour of our warehouse. They were amazed at the scale and capabilities of our small but mighty organization and expressed their excitement to distribute the Bags to children in need. The Bags will be distributed to local children who have been displaced, helping to ease the emotional and physical burden caused by the disaster. For many of these children, the My Stuff Bags will serve as a grounding symbol of hope, offering them comfort and essentials that many tragically lost due to the fire.
